Equipment needed to create hip hop beats?

Question by Marki024: Equipment needed to create hip hop beats?
I’ve listened to various musical generes my whole life, but out of all the genres I enjoy hip hop music seems to be the genre I wish to become involved in. I need to know whats the first piece of equipment I should purchase to begin making hip hop beats. I don’t expect to be able to make great beats initially, I’m just unsure of a starting point in this industry.

try acid pro and fruity loops, those are good programs that when u buy them u get lifetime updates.it can cost $ 20-450 depending how deep u wanna get in.i would also suggest hammerhead 1.0, its free and u can make col beats with it,however u cant convert them to mp3 format.if u want hands on,the akai mpc 1000,2000,2000xl,2500,3000,and 4000 are good. i hope this helps u out,i use fruity loops and i love it,it takes a lil bit to figure it out.if i find anything else il continue to edit my question

I like the roland MC 505 – and post editions up to 808, very good for producing. Can use samples off your computer, keyboard, or pretty much anything.
I produce drum and bass, hardstyle, and various other forms of music – but these groove boxes are great for making anything..

sadly, atm I cant really think of anything else id love to have.. maybe a korg chaos pad, or electribe, but unsure..

Question by guenndu: Is the Akai mpc5000 a better look than the 2500? The Akai mpc5000 just hit the market,…?
…what’s good with it?
Many of us old heads are loyal to the 1000, and 2500 akai. However, I am hearing alot of noise about the mpc5000. Most people know Akai reigns supreme in the industry for the best production sounds and compilations. From what I know the Akai mpc5000 is just making it’s way to the public.

Akai has announced 2.0 OS for their flagship MPC5000 drum machine workstation, a free download for MPC owners. Now, the MPC itself has long been a bit minimalist in what it does – I think that’s part of its appeal, that it has resisted complexity. But users of the MPC1000 and 2000/2500 have as a result turned in some cases to an alternative firmware, JJOS, to get all the features they want. And Akai has generously looked the other way.

Akai says the 2.0 OS responds to user requests. Here’s what’s baked in:

Keygroup programs for chromatic, key-mapped samples (that wasn’t in there before, really?)
S1000/3000/4000/5000/6000, Z4/Z8 import
Effects automation recording, “an MPC first” (by which I assume they mean it’s the first time […]
